Just outside of Sinhao, Quinta de la Rosa sits on a Douro Valley hillside surrounded by vineyards and olive trees, and has a beautiful view of the Douro River below. The restaurant was excellent and we recommend reservations well in advance. Our stay was beyond expectations.

One of the most delightful surprises was the rooftop orchard, brimming with oranges and lemons that guests were welcome to enjoy. We couldn't resist engorging ourselves with citrus in the mornings. The atmosphere was so warm and inviting that it felt more like a reunion with dear friends and family at their private orchard rather than a stay at a public hostel.
