We are big fans of Alsatian white blends, as the flavorful grapes in the region can really offer robust and, dare we say, decadent wines.

One bottle we tried that we quite loved was Christophe Mittnacht's Terres d'etoiles Gyotaku- a blend of Pinot Blanc, Gewurztraminer, Muscat, and Riesling. While this one was perhaps not as intense as other Alsatian white blends we've had, it was a refreshing bottle at a reasonable price point all around.

We could get used to this!

A Flavorful Alsatian White Blend

Christophe Mittnacht Terres d'etoiles Gyotaku

This Alsatian blend was pale gold in color with medium aromas of lemon, lime, pear, wet stone, white blossom, candied peach, saline, and marmalade.

On the palate, it was dry with medium(+) acidity and flavor intensity, medium alcohol and body, and a long finish. We had notes of lemon, lime, pear, white blossom, elderflower, marmalade, peach ring, and beeswax.

This one was perhaps not as complex on the palate as on the aromas, but had a nice spread of flavors as well as a slight textural note alongside the beeswax flavor that we enjoyed. We've certainly had more intense Alsatian white blends, but this one hit all the right notes for us.

Alsatian White Food Pairing – Yuzu Miso Sablefish

Alsatian White Pairing - Yuzu Miso Sablefish

We paired this one with a Japanese inspired miso broiled sablefish with yuzu to have a nod to the Japanese fish origins in the wine. This pairing caused more pear and peach notes to express in the wine as well as a slight increase in floral and saline notes as well, while acid appeared to drop ever-so-slightly.

For this particular pairing, we quite liked the flavor change and thought the wine held up well with the meal all around.

Score: 4 / 5

We'd buy another bottle of this one.

One element of this blend we really enjoyed is that the bottle itself came in at a rather nice price point in the US. As previously mentioned, we've had much more intense blends from this region before, but for a slightly lighter bottle, particularly at its price, we can't say no to another.

Domaine Christophe Mittnacht is located at ZA Birgelsgaerten, Ostheim, France. We purchased this bottle locally and enjoyed it in 2026.
