You may be surprised to find out that wine grapes are being grown as far north as Denmark, and one of the reasons this otherwise cold climate is able to ripen grapes is that they are working on unique PIWI grapes that are bred to tolerate the weather.
PIWI grapes take on a number of definitions, but for the most part they are hybrid grapes bred for cold and disease tolerance in cooler climates- like Denmark.
This rose blend from Lindely Vingard featured two such PIWIs, Rondo and Cabernet Cortis, and could hold up with many other bottles of rose we’ve reviewed on this site to date.
