Lumassina is a native grape to Liguria in northwest Italy, and is one we hadn't heard of until beginning our quest to try every grape varietal in the world.

As soon as our bottle was delivered, we realized it looked familiar. Borderline low alcohol per the label, a pale yellow color with a slightly green tint, and colorful branding? Well, it felt a lot like a Vinho Verde before opening.

So we paired it with a vegetarian feast on a hot summer day and were quite pleased to find out the wine was exactly like what we expected.

Lumassina is an Easy Drinking, Bright White

Punta Crena Lumassina

This Lumassina was pale lemon in color with effervescence. It almost had a slight green hue to it as well, which made us instantly think of young Vinho Verde. It had medium aromas of pear, yellow apple, lemon, peach, wet stone, quince, peach ring, and a slightly reductive note.

On the palate, it was dry with high acidity, medium alcohol (albeit borderline low) and finish, and medium(+) body and flavor intensity. We had notes of lemon, lime, pear, yellow apple, wet stone, beeswax, and honeysuckle.

All things considered, the strong acidity and primary fruit notes in this one really reminded us of Vinho Verde all around, and is the kind of bright and easy sipper that goes down fast. But the nice wet stone and beeswax notes, however nominal, added a nice complexity as well.

Lumassina Food Pairing – Spinach Pancakes with Zucchini and Mushrooms

Lumassina Food Pairing - Spinach Pancake

We paired this Lumassina with spinach pancakes with zucchini and mushrooms as we thought the bright and vibrant acidity would work well with the vegetarian meal. The spinach pancakes had a nice acidity pop with pronounced lemon and lime notes, whereas the morel mushrooms had riper fruit notes with an earthy pop that almost made the mushroom flavor more intense.

Score: 3 / 5

We'd buy a glass of this one.

Overall, while a fairly simple wine, this one still was quite enjoyable and is perfect for a hot summer day with many food pairings. We didn't expect much of the flavor to change with the meal, but the acidity held up nicely and was refreshing all around. As such, we wouldn't say no to a glass.

Punta Crena is located at Strada Vecchia 19, 17024 Finale in Liguria, Italy. We purchased this bottle on Wine.com and enjoyed it in 2025.
