Every now and again, we like to try large producers, and as far as Oregon production is concerned, Argyle is among the largest with tens of thousands of cases produced every year.
Naturally, given that we quite enjoy Oregon Pinot Noir, we thought we'd try Argyle's Pinot Noir on for size and wanted to share a bit more in this review!
Red Cherry Abound in Argyle Pinot Noir
This Oregon Pinot Noir was pale ruby in color with medium(-) aromas of dark cherry, red cherry, clove, cranberry, pomegranate, cedar, black pepper, and a very mild blueberry note as well.
On the palate, it was dry with high acidity, medium chalky tannin, alcohol, body plus a medium(+) flavor intensity and a medium(-) finish. We had notes of red cherry (repeat ad nauseum, it was a lot of cherry), raspberry, clove, cranberry, red currant, chalk, dried leaves, and forest floor.
Although this wine does have some nice complexity to it, we will admit, it really cannot be overstated just how cherry-forward this particular bottle was.
Pinot Noir Food Pairing – Mushroom Risotto
We paired this Pinot Noir with a mushroom risotto to lean into the classic Pinot and mushroom combo which, as expected, worked beautifully. We had more prominent notes of dark fruit like blueberry and black raspberry as well as a stronger concentration of the chalky flavors mentioned above that worked out nicely with the risotto.
So pair this with an umami dish with mushrooms and see how it goes!
Score: 2 / 5
We're okay on this one.
Overall, while this Pinot Noir was fine and well made, it was also fairly simple and had an abundance of cherry notes all around. The chalky notes were quite nice and we enjoyed it with our meal, but we're fine with this bottle all the same.
Argyle is located at 691 Hwy 99W in Dundee, Oregon. We purchased this bottle locally and enjoyed it in 2026. At the time of publication, it was available one Wine.com.
