One of the things we loved when visiting Laherte Freres in Champagne is that they had a strong focus on Blanc de Noir style wines- namely, white sparkling wines made from red grapes like Pinot Noir and Meunier.
Naturally, they also have a strong lineup of rose Champagne, and their Les Beaudiers bottle is one such example made exclusively with Menuier grown on old vines planted in the 1950s and 60s.
Naturally, we had to bring a bottle of this one home with us and we enjoyed it shortly thereafter.
Rose Champagne Made Exclusively of Meunier
This rose Champagne made of Meunier was deep pink in color with medium aromas of red cherry, watermelon, raspberry, wet stone, chalk, cream, toast, and white blossom.
On the palate, it was dry with high acidity, creamy mousse, medium body, alcohol, and flavor intensity, plus a long finish. We had notes a lot like the nose with strawberry, raspberry, watermelon, wet stone, cream, toast, and orange peel being prominent.
This rose Champagne did not go through malolactic fermentation and had a rather low dosage, so it offered quite a fruit-forward expression all around with a fairly decent flavor intensity, too!
Rose Champagne Food Pairing – Pasta with Red Pepper Sauce
We paired this rose Champagne with a pasta made with a roasted red pepper sauce and a side salad with honey miso vinaigrette. We thought the creamy roasted red pepper sauce could go either way in pairing with a white or red wine, and we wanted to err on the side of lighter and opted to go with rose bubbles for the best of all worlds.
The pasta itself helped highlight more citrus notes in the wine that we otherwise were not getting as much when drinking alone, and we’d possibly argue that the wine tasted more like what we’d expect from a blanc de noir than a straight-up rose Champagne which was interesting.
Score: 3.5 / 5
We’d buy a glass of this one or another bottle with the right food pairing.
Overall, this was quite the nice bottle of Champagne and we are admittedly not used to seeing a 100% varietal Meunier rose sparkling all the same. That said, it was also quite expensive and gives us a moment of pause for another bottle. But would we get a glass or a bottle with the right pairing? Absolutely.
Champagne Laherte Freres is located at 3 Rue Des Jardins 51530 in Chavot, France. We purchased this bottle at the winery and enjoyed it in 2026. It was available on Wine.com at the time of publication as well.
