Susana Balbo is an acclaimed wine producer in Mendoza, Argentina, and we were thrilled to receive a bottle of her Brioso Signature White blend in our Picked by Wine.com subscription in a recent delivery.

Not only were we excited to try this producer, perhaps the best part were the grapes.

This one is made with a curious combination of Torrontes, Sauvignon Blanc, and Semillon which made for a rather interesting blend. The addition of Torrontes to this one really increased the complexity significantly!

A Complex Blend from Mendoza

Susana Balbo Signature Brioso

This Argentinian white blend was pale lemon in color with medium(+) aromas of lemon, pear, elderflower, candied peach, pineapple, white blossom, wet stone, and grass.

On the palate, it was dry with high acidity and medium alcohol, body, flavor intensity, and finish. We had notes of lemon, lime, pear, peach, elderflower, white blossom, beeswax, wet stone, grapefruit, pineapple, and gooseberry. We both independently described the flavor profile as tutti frutti simply because it was a fruit bomb that rounded out nicely with the floral elements.

Normally we're not too big of fans of Torrontes when it is on its own as a varietal bottle, but for this one it really helped increase the complexity in all the best ways. Yes, there were floral notes. Yes, they were much more prominent, but the Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon really helped balance this one nicely all around.

Argentinian White Blend Food Pairing – Cheese Board

Mendoza White Wine Blend Pairing - Cheese Board

We paired this floral-forward white blend with a cheese board with various dips (like roasted carrot hummus), kumquat jam, black garlic honey, and more. The carrot hummus was perhaps the most interesting pairing here was it cut the acidity in the wine nicely while letting more floral characteristics shine (in a good way).

A soft, bloomy rind cheese was also a pretty good pairing as well as the floral notes felt a bit more integrated with elevated fruit character.

Score: 4 / 5

We'd buy a bottle of this one.

Overall, although you may be able to argue that this bottle is a bit more on the simpler side for what we normally enjoy, the integration of flavors were rather nice here and the floral characteristics from the Torrontes really helped elevate this one. For that, we'd buy another bottle to enjoy again in the future.

Susana Balbo is located at Cochabamba 7801, Lujan de Cuyo in Argentina. We received this bottle as part of our Picked subscription and enjoyed it in 2026.
