Sometimes a bottle of wine is so good that we immediately go out and buy another one. For Domaine de L'Enchantoir Terres Blanches, a beautiful Chenin Blanc from Saumur, this was just the case.
Well, sort of. This one was an instance of Angie opening the bottle of wine while I was out of town, regretting having it on her own, and buying it because it was just so good that I had to try it.
After opening a bottle to share, I can safely say, she was absolutely right. This one is a delight!
A Chenin Blanc with a Bit of Everything
This Loire Valley Chenin Blanc was pale gold in color with medium(+) aromas of pear, yellow apple, grapefruit, overripe pineapple, wet stone, chalk, toast, melon, papaya, and jasmine.
On the palate, it was dry with high acidity, medium alcohol, medium(+) body and flavor intensity, and a long finish. We had notes of lemon, lime, pear, nectarine, wet stone, grapefruit, pineapple, toast, white blossom, and faint beeswax, to name a few.
Wow. This wine has a little bit of everything from tropical fruit to floral characteristics and a lovely minerality to tie it all together. If you've wanted Chenin Blancs with just a bit more oomph, this wine has it and then some.
Chenin Blanc Food Pairing – Miso Ramen
We paired this robust wine with a rich homemade miso ramen. The umami nature of the dish helped more tropical notes like pineapple jump out, and we even noticed an elevated perception of the light beeswax characteristic too.
Do not be afraid to pair this one with something a bit more intense than you'd expect- it can hold up to it!
Score 4 / 5
We'd buy another bottle of this one.
Angie liked this bottle so much that she bought a second one for me to try when I got home, and after sharing it, I have to admit, I want to buy another to have on hand at all times. This one is just that tasty, and if you like a complex Chenin Blanc, do not miss this one!
Domaine de L'Enchantoir is located at 4 rue de l'Arguray 49260 Le Puy Notre Dame in Saumur, France. We purchased this bottle on Wine.com and enjoyed it in 2024.
