We take wine recommendations from strangers very seriously.

When we were at an agriturismo in Sicily, we met a lovely couple from the south of France that told us their favorite Provencal rose comes from one specific producer- Domaines Ott. They were adamant about it being the best, so much so that we knew we had to find a bottle.

We were lucky to sample it once at a restaurant, and finally stumbled upon a bottle of the Le Chateau de Selle Rose locally and picked it up despite its high price tag. Although we'll be the first to admit that the price we paid was a bit more than we would've preferred, this was quite the tasty rose!

Domaines Ott Offers Flavorful Rose

Domaines Ott Chateau de Selle

This Provence rose was pale pink orange in color with medium aromas of strawberry, grapefruit, pineapple, thyme, watermelon rind, red cherry, lemon zest, wet stone, pear, white blossom, and beeswax.

On the palate, it was dry with medium(+) acidity, body, and flavor intensity, medium alcohol, and a long finish. We had notes similar to the nose of strawberry, raspberry, watermelon, wet stone, saline, grapefruit, lime, lemon, red cherry, and pear.

This one was a rather robust rose while still maintaining that fresh and fruity note we love from a rose from Provence!

Domaines Ott Food Pairing – Macaroni with Razor Clams in Tomato Sauce

Domaines Ott Food Pairing - Pasta

We paired this rose with homemade Italian macaroni with razor clams in tomato sauce as we wanted a bright and fresh rose with the meal. More red fruit characteristics jumped out from the wine which we quite enjoyed here as the acidity and flavor held its own.

This is the kind of wine that could go with just about anything, but we are really glad to have paired it with a pasta with tomato sauce either way!

Score 3.5 / 5

We would buy a glass of this and another bottle in the right circumstance.

Truly, the only downside with a bottle of Domaines Ott is that, in the United States at least, it is rare and very expensive. We really enjoyed this bottle, and its price point is the only reason that we would pause on having another. So we'd always be down for a glass, and would pick up more bottles if the price was right.

Domaines Ott is located at Bregancon, 83230 Bormes-les-Mimosas, France. We purchased this bottle locally and enjoyed it in 2025. At the time of publication, the wine was available on Wine.com at a slightly more approachable price point than we paid.
