We've been fortunate enough to try most of Champagne Dumenil's bottles due to them being available by a local distributor, and have tried many gems (including their Prestige Vieilles Vignes which has been one of our favorites we have tried to date).
Their Amour de Cuvee is a Blanc de Noir style made with Meunier and Pinot Noir which hit us with classic Champagne notes as well as modest lees and a bit of age to go along with it!
A Flavorful Champagne With Light Lees
This Champagne was medium gold with medium(+) aromas of yellow apple, pear, bread dough, toast, saline, honeydew, cream, and pineapple.
On the palate, it was dry with medium(+) acidity, body, and flavor intensity, medium alcohol, and a long finish. We had flavor notes of lemon, yellow apple, pear, peach, pineapple, wet stone, toast, brioche, cream, and a light almond note.
Admittedly a bit lighter on the lees than we normally like, but still an all-around delicious bottle of Champagne getting into just a little bit of age, too!
Champagne Food Pairing – Mushroom Risotto with Truffle
We paired this Champagne with a mushroom risotto with truffle oil added. We thought the umami nature of the dish would pair nicely with the rich lees flavor in the wine and had a nice citrus pop with lighter cream notes coming through.
Admittedly, as the lees were a bit lighter on this one than we would have thought, pairing it with a robust dish like this made us want a bit more. That said, the wine does make for a pretty wonderful pairing with many foods either way- all good Champagne really does!
Score: 3.5 / 5
We'd buy a glass of this one and a bottle with the right pairing.
Overall, Champagne Dumenil is one of our favorite producers we've had from the region, and their Amour de Cuvee is no different. While we prefer bottles with slightly higher intensity in lees notes, this one hits all the hallmarks of a classic Champagne all around!
Champagne Dumenil is located at 38 Rue du Puits, Route de Bezannes, in Sacy, France. We bought the bottle locally and enjoyed it in 2024.
