When we went on our wine tour of Piedmont, we knew we had to stop in Barbaresco town for an afternoon. Naturally, the coop Produttori del Barbaresco has a tasting room right in the heart of Barbaresco town, and within minutes from parking we were in their doors sampling some wine.
Although their base Barbaresco wine is widely distributed and is in most stores we frequent, we also have to admit, this one is delicious!
We picked up a few bottles of their 2019 when in Piedmont to bring home, and cracked open our first one in 2025 to see how it was tasting with just under six years of age.
Developing Barbaresco With a Lot of Life Left
This Barbaresco was pale garnet in color, with medium(+) aromas of red cherry, violet, dried cranberry, raspberry, cassis, leather, smoke, tobacco, cedar, lavender, fig, balsamic, dried leaves, and wet stone.
On the palate, it was dry with medium(+) acidity, flavor intensity, and chalky tannin, high alcohol, medium body, and long finish. We had flavors of dried red cherry, dried cranberry, raspberry, cedar, clove, black pepper, smoke, tobacco, chalk, violet, cassis, and chocolate.
As expected for Nebbiolo, six years is a decent bit of time to start showcasing its fabulous tertiary character, but its strong acidity, tannin, and wealth of fruit notes means this bottle could age for quite a bit of time too. We're going to let our next bottle sleep for a fair bit of time and look forward to cracking into it in the future!
Food Pairing – Pork Chop with Mushroom Polenta and White Truffle Cream
Given the intensity of Nebbiolo, we decided it to pair it with an equally intense meal of a sous vide pork chop served with mushroom polenta that had a heaping amount of white truffle cream added for good measure.
The pork on its own highlighted stronger, earthy, smoky notes and a plethora of dried fruit flavors. The polenta did more of the same, particularly highlighting some fresher blueberry and dark fruit notes. Interestingly enough, the broccoli on the side helped showcase blueberry and some green bell pepper notes as well. All around, a pretty solid pairing!
Score: 4 / 5
We'd buy another bottle.
It is hard to beat a classic bottle like Produttori del Barbaresco with a bit of age. Although it was just starting to show some great character, we're going to let our next bottle go another decade or so before cracking into it. We're likely to pick up a few more bottles to cellar, too!
Produttori del Barbaresco is located at Via Torino 54, Barbaresco, IT 12050. We purchased this bottle directly at the tasting room and enjoyed it in 2025. Newer vintages were also available on Wine.com at the time of posting.
