For International Sauvignon Blanc Day (the first Friday in May), we were sent a bottle of this delicious varietal from Napa-based St. Supery Winery.

It didn't take long after pouring this estate-grown wine that we knew it was quite the representative Sauvignon Blanc!

All the Flavors We Like in a Sauvignon Blanc

St. Supery Sauvignon Blanc 2019

St Supery's Sauvignon Blanc was pale lemon in color with medium+ aromas of lemon, lime, yellow apple, peach, and grass that was youthful- all hallmarks of the grape if there ever were any.

On the palate the wine was dry, high acidity that was refreshing, medium alcohol, body, and intensity of flavor with notes of lemon, lime, grapefruit, and peach plus a long finish.

While we wouldn't call this particular bottle a very complex Sauvignon Blanc, it hit all the points that we like about the wine without being overly intense in the grass/vegetal department on the nose. So, that is to say, it went down quickly.

Sauvignon Blanc Food Pairing – Stuffed Rolled Pork Chops

Rolled Stuffed Pork Chop to Pair with a Sauvignon Blanc

On its own, we normally wouldn't pair a pork chop with white wine, but when we decided to pound the chop out and roll it into a log filled with spinach, sun-dried tomatoes, and a goat and cream cheese mixture, well, we thought we may have a winner.

In a way, the rich and creamy filling for this dish helped work some wonders on the wine as it was paired with the acidity quite well and helped bring out some stone fruit flavors in the wine as well as possibly a bit of minerality we didn't note on its own. So while we think that pork chops on their own may not be enough to make all this work, this extra element certainly gave it a nice pop!

Score: 3 / 5

We'd buy a glass of this one.

Overall, St. Supery's Sauvignon Blanc is quite representative of all the things we like in the varietal. It was not terribly intense nor complex, but as we shy away from some bottles of this that are overly grassy or vegetal (which this one most certainly is not) we'll sip on a glass of this one easily.

St. Supery Winery is located at 8440 St Helena Hwy in Rutherford, CA. We were sent this bottle complimentary from the winery for a review and enjoyed it in 2021. As always, all opinions are our own.
